Minorcan coves are some of the most spectacular in the Mediterranean, a constant attraction bringing tourists to the Balearics. Many of them are preserved without having been developed, pristine spots which can generally only be reached using private transport. Some are even impossible to get to unless you are prepared to walk a few kilometres on foot following bridle paths & footpaths.
In our Guide we explain and mark on the map the main Minorcan coves, but you can always find spots away from the crowds to enjoy the crystal clear water of one of the most highly protected of the Balearic Islands.
You should remember that Minorca is a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve therefore most of the pristine beaches are to be found within natural reserve areas or areas of special natural interest.
Here we have given you a summary, with the main unspoilt coves shown by areas. The coves on the north coast in general have coarse golden ochre-coloured sand, with more abrupt surroundings. In the south there is more vegetation and beaches having a fine, white sand.
