In Minorca, the urban development associated with tourism has been controlled and limited. Thanks to this, the environmental integrity of the island remains in superb condition, so much so, that in 1993 it was declared a Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO. They have conserved natural, pristine spaces and some fascinating coves.

Even though Minorca is quite small, only 47n Km long from end to end, the very fact of being an island means that our coastline is very extensive. We are talking about a coastline a full 217 Kms long, where over fifty beaches and coves can be found.

The 'avarca' was the footwear always used by farmworkers in Minorca, principally the shepherds ('pastors') and dayworkers ('missagers'). The sole was cut out from old car tyres with a wide leather strip over the instep leaving the toes open and held on by a leather heel strap.
